Hi! My name is Lily, and I'm the Alpha Animal Hospital mascot. I'm a 4 year old leopard gecko. We got that name because we have spots like a leopard, but we're really very gentle, loveable geckos.
My diet is a variety of insects, like meal worms and crickets. In the wild, we would eat pretty much anything, including spiders, scorpions, and even newborn mice. Leopard geckos are immune to the sting of scorpions.
At Alpha, I have my own cool cage. It has a rock to hide under, a water dish, and a coconut-shell humidity room. In the wild you can find my relatives in Pakistan, western India, Iran and Iraq. They live in rocky deserts and dry grasslands. We are nocturnal animals, which means you may not see me at the hospital during the day: I only like to come out at night!
Fun facts about us geckos:
We don't have sticky toe-pads like some of our cousins. Instead our feet have claws, so we can climb rocks.
We have eyelids. Not all geckos do. If you see me up close, be sure to admire my beautiful eyes.
Autotomy means I can lose my tail if a predator grabbed it. It will regrow, but not be as perfect as the "original equipment". I store fat in my tail in case times get lean.
